Dacia Mbongo: Quebec Man Fatally Shot In Toronto Beaches

A Quebec man was fatally shot in the Beaches neighborhood of Toronto last Thursday night.

Quebec and Ontario go hand in hand when it comes down to crime. This year, there have been several incidents of Quebec criminals seeking refuge or either being apprehended in Ontario. There has been even some Quebec criminals seeking refuge in British Columbia in hopes of evade authorities. On the other hand, there are less Ontario criminals that seek refuge in Quebec.

To say the least, a Quebec man was found with a gunshot wound when Toronto police were contacted Thursday night (8/08/2024) at around 10:40pm after residents of the neighborhood called 911 after hearing gunshots. This man hailed from Quebec. Was is gang related? It’s too early to say.

The shooting occurred this past Thursday in Toronto’s Beaches neighborhood, in a laneway near the crossway of Joseph Duggan Road and Lake Shore Boulevard East. Residents stated they had heard a group of men arguing in the neighborhood, followed by the sound of five to seven gunshots. After the shots rang out, they heard screaming.

A resident of the neighborhood, 63-year-old Paul Irvine also provided police with footage of the shooting. When police arrived at the scene, they had found an unidentified man suffering from a gunshot wound. 15 minutes later, an ambulance arrived on the scene, where they quickly rushed the man to the nearest hospital where he was declared deceased.

Toronto detective Trevor Grieve (Right) was assigned to the homicide.

We do not have the footage of the shooting yet, but Paul Irvine told the media how the footage plays out; “The cameras catch this guy sprinting, running for his life. Full speed. Its hard to tell, but it looks as if he had already been shot. He runs down to this house over here and drops” Irvine told media. We were able to get another video of the shooting which shows the laneway, empty, and 10 gunshots going off in the background following by screaming.

Another residents who lives in the neighborhood told CBC she heard a total of 8 gunshots. The residents were not too stunned by the gunshots when they heard them, due to the fact in which the scene of the crime is only a short walk away form Woodbine Beach, where residents regularly hear the ‘popping’ sounds of fireworks in the area. Although most of these fireworks happen over the weekend and residents closer to the scene of the crime could tell the two sounds apart. One resident located 500 meters away from the scene of the crime stated that it sounded like the shots were in his house.

Authorities had a hard time identifying the man, due to him not having any form ID on him after the shooting had occurred. But a day later, on Friday, the man was identified as 21-year-old Dacia Mbongo from Quebec. The homicide of Mbongo marks the citys 52nd homicide of the year.

Toronto authorities believe that this shooting was a ‘targeted’ shooting, but it also could have been due to a disagreement since there were a group of men heard arguing minutes before the shooting. Toronto authorities do not have any suspects in their sights as of yet, but they believe they are looking for 2 to 3 men wearing dark clothing. This was the only description Toronto police had at the time.

Rest in peace, Dacia Mbongo (?-8/08/2024)
