Quebec City is the 2nd biggest city in the province, with the first obviously being Montreal. Quebec City is not known for its violence, but rather known for its tourism. Even after the bloodshed brought on by the ongoing drug war between the HAMC and the Blood Family Mafia, the body count tally remains low. Of course there are incidents of violence, torture and kidnapping, but murders in the city and it’s surrounding regions remain quite low.
Although, in the wee hours Tuesday morning (6/8/2024), a murder occurred in the Limoilou borough. A rare incident of violence took place when a 30-year-old victim was stabbed along with a second victim in her 20’s. This incident was not gang-related, but rather a family affair from what we know so far.
The incident took place sometime before 12:55am, which is when emergency services received the call. It happened on the second floor of an apartment complex situated on Avenue Eugene-Lamontagne, near the intersection of Rue Pontgrave. When emergency services arrived at the scene, they found two victims who suffered from stab wounds, both were rushed to the hospital. A 30-year-old male victim was declared dead, once at the hospital. His name was Jordan Lumbala. The other victim, a woman in her 20’s had also been stabbed, but police mentioned how they weren’t concerned for her life as she only suffered minor stab wounds. A window was broken during the struggle.
When officers were at the scene, it did not take them long before they found the perpetrator of this event. The suspect, a 31-year-old man by the name of Michel Mwendanga was arrested that same night. He was quickly charged with 2nd degree murder but no charges have been laid concerning the second victim as of yet.
The more shocking part of this whole story lies in the relation the suspect had to the victim. Michel Mwendanga was Jordan Lumbala’s brother. The SPVQ (Quebec City Police Department) had determined this through Facebook. As for the neighboring residents and the local community, they are shocked that this happened and hadn’t seen any past violence with the family.
Michel Mwendanga appeared in court through videoconference today (7/08/2024) and is set to reappear in court on the 19th of August after authorities have concluded their investigation. He is currently being held without bail due to the severity and violent nature of the crime he committed.
