Gatineau is a small Quebec town only minutes away from the country’s capital, Ottawa. In Quebec media, you rarely hear of the town bordering the two provinces, last we heard of it was concerning a rapper by name of ‘Joey G’ who had hailed from the place. Gatineau’s area code happens to be 819, which is also the area code of Trois-Rivieres, Sherbrooke, Val D’Or or any other small town in Quebec whether it’s east, west, north or even south of where you live. Gatineau witnessed their third homicide of the year Thursday morning, in the Hull borough, when police found a body on Rue Allumettieres.
Towards 6:15am, Thursday (26/09/2024) morning, police had stumbled upon a corpse who was once named Maxim Bourgon-Frigon, near the intersection of Rue Allumettieres and Rue Saint-Redempteur in Gatineau. The victim had been shot, urging police to call transport immediately to the hospital where his death had been confirmed. Due to the crime scene investigation, Rue Allumettieres was closed for the better half of Thursday.
Maxim Bourgon-Frigon, who was 35 at the time of his death, was well known to police, having picked up convictions relating to firearms, drugs and assault in the past. So, was this death related to an ongoing beef? Jealousy? A nuisance to a certain case? Police firstly deemed this Hull homicide as an armed assault, and had later found the man involved for the murder of the 35-year-old Gatineau man.
Taking on the case when the sun had first risen, investigators had a suspect in their hands before the sun had set on Thursday. They had 2 suspects in this case, a 56-year-old man and 41-year-old woman. The latter had been sent home by investigators later on after spending a night being heavily questioned.
Although one suspect had been released, another had been charged. The 56-year-old man, Philippe Cyr, was charged with the attempted murder of Bourgon-Frigon. The suspect in question, Philippe Cyr, doesn’t have a squeaky clean criminal record but rather one tainted with an assault charge which was pending.
It’s a wonder whether this homicide had happened throughout a bad drug deal, jealousy or what not. The motives for the killing haven’t been determined yet. With the heavy criminal past Bourgon-Frigon had, you’d think it would be easy to pin-point the reason for his murder, but investigations continue as to why…
