The currently clouded series of events first began when a TPS cruiser decided to pull over a red Infiniti near the intersection of Bathurst Street and Sheppard Avenue West in North York towards 10:50pm. The reason for the traffic stop was because the front plate of the vehicle was missing. In Ontario, it’s mandatory to have a license plate in the back, and the front of your vehicle. Once the suspect vehicle had pulled over, two officers approached the vehicle slowly where they found 6 people inside the vehicle, all aged from 16-years-old to 20.

An AXON body cam footage and surveillance camera footage captured the moments leading and the moments after a slew of gunshots had been fired. The body camera footage of the officer on the passenger side vehicle portrays him pulling the passenger seat’s clasp, making an opening for the passengers in the back seat to exit, since the Infiniti was a 2-door, police also report it might have been a Lexus. The officer courteously lets a woman out first, when the second passenger closest to the door hesitates for a brief moment before pulling out a handgun and pointing it directly at the cop.
The video freezes, but the audio keeps going, at the very moment the gun is pointed at the officer, a pop is heard. A brief second passes, the officer steps back, violently belting the word “gun”, repeatedly. These few seconds can also be seen on the surveillance video obtained by CTV picturing a more grand view of the whole scene, filmed from the other side of the street. It happens fast, the primary picture that catches your eye is the flash from the barrels and then, the shatter of the windshield. Afterwards, well over a dozen shots are heard.
The body cam footage, which hasn’t been fully released to the public, then shows the officers helping one of the blood-drenched occupants out of the car. Then again while the officer was giving CPR to one of the passengers of the vehicle. A few other angles had been filmed by bystanders, one of which is an officer desperately giving CPR to one of the suspects. Information relating how many people were struck by gunshots or debris are still unclear. We can confirm a 16-year-old teenager involved in the incident died this morning (22/04/2025) in the hospital. Was he the suspect who fired at the officer? We don’t even know yet.
All six of the occupants were either from Brampton or Toronto, three male and three female. Charges have been laid in relation to possession of a firearm, all while being loaded and not having a legitimate license, failing to comply with a release order and occupying a vehicle with a firearm. The Special Investigations Unit or the SIU have taken the reins of this investigation.
The impression we get from all the footage is that the suspect fires a shot at the officers, before the officers return fire, airing the living daylights out of what would be a 16-year-old teenager, and other occupants only inches away from the suspect. We don’t know what happened and details of who fired who? Who fired at what? And why did they do it? The only thing solidifying the truth in this case are the five other passengers who witnessed and lived through the whole thing. As we saw with the mysterious murder of a ‘suspect’ which took place in a Montreal apartment within the past couple of months. Police seem to mold their own truths when there are no eyes on them.
