Project Poppie: The Downtown Toronto Shooting Fiasco

On the 11th of November of 2024, a birthday party was taking place in a makeshift recording studio at 1196 Queen Street West towards the intersection Sudbury Street. The get-together would soon degenerate into a shooting, which would luckily end without any victims. That night would result in one of those scenarios that would be stranger than fiction, a series of unfortunate events.

Police released new information as well as made a new slew of arrests in relation to a massive gang shooting which occurred on November 11th, 2024. 23 individuals were arrested after a shooting in which nearly 100 rounds were fired. Amazingly, given the amount of people implicated in this shooting, no one had been injured.

November 11th Shooting

Just recently TPS (Toronto Police Services) released security footage of the studio that day, the video portrays around 30 or so people dancing with guns. Every individual in the place had either a handgun or sub-machine gun in hand. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves until three individuals pulled up to the studio towards 11:30pm and started shooting at a group just outside of the studio. Unfortunately the trio was highly overpowered and were met with a slew of bullets heading towards their direction.

The trio ran for cover behind a parked car. Little did they know this car would be occupied by two police investigators doing surveillance for a bail compliance check. Several shots were fired into this unmarked car. The trio made their way to their getaway car, which happened to be stolen, only to have it get rammed by yet another, separate unmarked police car. The trio fled the scene on foot, police managed to apprehend one of the three suspects while the two others managed to get away.

The occupants of the studio were panicking, fleeing the scene and getting rid of their firearms wherever they could, in garbage pails, under one of the studio’s couches, doing anything in their will to avoid getting stuck with a gun charge. After the smoke settled, nearly 100 bullets had been fired.

Police would eventually arrest 23 people that night and had managed to seize 16 firearms. Out of the 23 arrested, only 8 of them were charged, two of these suspects had been out on bail at the time. This week, Toronto Police Services arrested an additional 14 people involved in the fiasco. Along with the 14 additionally arrested and charged, 9 suspects are wanted in relation to this shooting. 105 charges were laid in relation to that night. All suspects are between 16 to 32 years of age.

Three suspects had gone to the apartment complex near the intersection of Lake Shore Boulevard West and Long Branch Avenue. They forced entry to the apartment and demanded valuables. The apartment was rented by Matthew Bergart’s friend who was with him when he was murdered. The victims had put up a fight with the suspects, which is when Bergart was shot. HAMC Herouxville Clubhouse Raided

The Trois-Rivieres chapter clubhouse of the HAMC was raided last Friday. Yielding less arrests than the one on the Satan’s Crew clubhouse in Becancour nearly two months previous to this event. Are authorities reaching or just being cautious in recent light of the drug strife happening in the province?
