The Weekly Wreck 11: 1.3 Ton Of Cannabis Seized, Kirkland Vehicle Arson, Saguenay Pizzeria Arson & More

The Weekly Wreck 11 (29/01/2025): In this week's compilation of The Weekly Wreck over 1.3 tons of cannabis was seized in Montreal's port in a shipping container headed for Africa, the raid had taken place sometime after the holidays, a Saguenay pizzeria is the target to a criminal arson for the second time in 2 months, two drug trafficking rings were dismantled; one in the region of Estrie and the other in Gaspesie, all that and more.

1.3 Tons of Cannabis Seized at Montreal’s Port

Sometime after Christmas, the RCMP laid out an operation which led to over 1.3 tons of cannabis being seized. The contraband was found in a container that was destined for Nigeria. What was supposed to contain vehicles and car parts actually contained 3113 sealed packages of cannabis stored in 59 duffle bags. Totaling in 1384.5 kilograms.


2 Arrested After Stealing ATM in Saint-Hippolyte

Three individuals were involved in stealing an ATM from a gas station in the early hours of Thursday (23/01/2025) morning. Police received a call towards 1:30am concerning the break in, they later found the SUV that had been implicated in the heist on Chemin des Hauteurs. Police arrested 2 suspects in their 40’s but the third individual managed to get away. They are facing charges for breaking and entering as well as theft over 5000$.


Laval Restaurant ‘Gatto Matto’ Targeted by Gunshots

An Italian restaurant named ‘Gatto Matto’ was targeted by gunshots early Thursday morning. Nobody was injured, as there were no people in the establishment at the time of the crime. An employee of the Laval restaurant noticed the gunshots once he started his shift on Thursday. Multiple windows of the establishment were shattered and police had found that at least 4 shots had been fired. Shells were found on the ground which leads police to believe that the shots were fired from a vehicle. Authorities are putting the fact that this might have to do with the recent extortion wave happening throughout Laval and Montreal but cannot be sure.


2 Estrie Men Arrested in Drug Trafficking Raid

The Sherbrooke Police Service (SPS) launched the final part of an investigation that had started a few weeks back. They rolled out search warrants in Sherbrooke and Saint-Georges-de-Windsor last Tuesday (21/01/2025). The search warrants were executed on residences on Rue Connelly, Chemin du Lac, Lincoln and Rue Leger. All these addresses were residences converted to trap houses meant for the sales of drugs.

A 59-year-old man as well as a 71-year-old were arrested and are facing charges of drug trafficking, illegal possession of cannabis and being in possession of a pistol. Police managed to seize 151 grams of cocaine, 324 grams of cannabis, a .22 caliber pistol and cash money.


20-Year-Old Man Shot By The SPVM

Police responded to a call early Saturday (25/01/2025) towards 1:40am on Rue Ryde near the intersection of Rue Charlevoix. A 20 some year old man had barricaded himself inside of an apartment. Throughout their intervention, he was shot once. He was rushed to the hospital and his wounds are non-life threatening. Details following up to the event are currently very scarce, the BEI (Internal Affairs) stepped in and are currently making their own investigation of the event.

19-Year-Old Arrested In Charlesbourg With Fully-Automatic Weapons

19-year-old Samuel Bernard appeared in court last Saturday (25/01/2025) for a myriad of charges, including being in possession of a GSG MP40 Luger, an AM16 and a Taurus G3 pistol. He was also in possession of 200 grams of cocaine, 60 grams of MDMA, a smoke grenade, multiple cell phones and around 5000$ in cash. Bernard was denied bail. Information on why he was in possession of all this contraband points to the fact that he may be involved in certain street gangs and organized crime throughout Quebec City.


Murder In Monteregie

A 70-year-old man from Saint-Anicet in the region of Monteregie was the victim of a homicide Saturday (25/01/2025) morning. Police found his body towards 9am on Chemin de la Riviere-La Guerre. Police arrested a suspect in his 50s and had interrogated him the same day. The reason for his cause of death is still a mystery to this point.


SUV Torched In Kirkland

At 2am Monday (27/01/2025) morning a call was place to the SPVM concerning an arson on Route Transcanadiene, near the intersection of Rue Houde in the Kirkland sector of Montreal. The vehicle was deemed a total loss. A suspect was seen leaving the scene of the crime and arson paraphernalia was found near the totaled SUV.


2 Arrested In Gaspesie + Drugs & Weapons Seized

Police seized 330 grams of cocaine, 200 contraband cigarettes, 2000$ in cash money and 6 firearms all due to a search warrant executed last Friday (24/01/2025) on the 3rd Rang in Saint-Godefroi in the region of Gaspesie. Authorities also arrested two men, aged 24 and 36 throughout this operation.


Saguenay Pizzeria Goes Up In Flames

Pizzeria L’Espoir in Saguenay was the target of a criminal arson that had been set on Saturday morning on Rue Rousel in the sector of North-Chicoutimi. A witness told police they saw 2 masked men with jerry cans set fire to the balcony of the pizza shop. This may be in relation to the drug war taking place in the province, but we can neither confirm or deny this fact. No arrests have been made. This is the second time this specific pizzeria has been targeted by arson in the last couple of months.

Griffintown Beauty Salon Target To Arson For The 3rd Time In A Row

Towards 3:15am on Tuesday (28/01/2025) morning the SPVM were called concerning an arson on a business that had taken place on Rue Payette. Firefighters deemed the arson was started by a Molotov cocktail. A witness told police he had seen a suspect leaving the crime scene shortly after the fire had been set. This will be the third time this specific building is targeted by criminally set arsons.
