On June 26th of this summer, Antonio Pietrantonio, or ‘Tony Suzuki’, survived an attempted hit on his life in style. While just having parked his car near the intersection of Rue Queen and Ottawa, two suspects approached him, one armed with a knife, the other with a pistol. Tony Suzuki was ambushed, what was supposed to be a murder had quickly gone south due to Pietrantonio’s quick wits. He grabbed the man armed with a knife and used him as a human shield to protect himself from the other would-be assailant.
The incident had occurred in broad daylight, with many witnessing the violence, urging the suspects to abort their intended mission. While this kerfuffle happened, Pietrantonio was in the presence of his daughter, thankfully, she made it out without a scratch. Pietrantonio had very minor wounds. Authorities had apprehended the two suspects involved in the crime after a 3-month long investigation.
The arrests occurred last Thursday (26/09/2024) in both Montreal and Laval. 20-year-old Esteban Paoli-Sosa and 18-year-old Karim Atay faced the repercussions of their actions which played out in June. A search warrant had also been executed. The warrant gave authorities more evidence to bring up in court during the duo’s trial. Paoli-Sosa was released on a 5,000$ bond. They are both facing armed assault charges. A third suspect may have been involved in the crime.
This was the second time Suzuki survived an attempt on his life, the first time dating all the way back to 2011. On the evening of December 13th, towards 9pm, Suzuki was shot as he was entering a Villeray restaurant. He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, with doctors fearing for his life. The shooting had occurred only three weeks after Sal ‘Sal the Iron Worker’ Montagna’s murder, which had occurred on November 24th, 2011.
Suzuki had been convicted in July of 1995 in a plot to smuggle 740 kilograms of cocaine from Venezuela. The attempt to smuggle the massive amount of cocaine into Canada had failed when the boat containing the load had sunk. The conspirators of the plot included Suzuki, as well as Raynald Desjardins and multiple HAMC members. The Hells Angels MC had tried to recover this sunken load by attempted to send a scuba diver by the name of Luc Bordeleau to try and recover the merchandise. Bordeleau was unsuccessful in his attempt but later prospected for the biker organization.
It’s still a wonder who sent these two youngins out to commit the crime in which they got pinched for last Thursday. Was it even attempted murder, or was it rather a kidnapping attempt. With the ongoing feud between the two powerhouses, which are the mob and the HAMC in Quebec, we have a feeling that we will only know in the far future.
