Sunday morning, the SQ (Quebec Provincial Police) received a call from Rivieres-des-Prairies detention facility concerning a dead man found in his own cell. News outlets refrained from stating the victim was a prominent rapper and gang member in their headlines, although made light mention of it in their article. Very few details have been released on this death contrary to past rapper/gang member slayings. With the cause of death still unknown, we can’t say for certain if it was a homicide, although authorities have deemed this as a suspicious death. We know for certain the man found, lying lifelessly in his cell was Andrew Luberisse, better known as Ali Baba on the streets.
Profit Boyz VS. Zone 43
To understand the tragic end that led to Ali Baba’s death, we first need to decipher his past criminal history and involvement in a Riviere-des-Prairies street gang named the Profit Boyz, also dubbed Profit Kollectaz. A gang that has been around for nearly a decade and claimed the green as their official gang color. Riviere-des-Prairies is a borough to the North East of the island of Montreal. Many Profit Boyz rappers are heard claiming ‘Riverside’, another nickname for Riviere-des-Prairies.
Luberisse was a very prominent figure in a gang war between the Profit Boyz and Zone 43, another street gang from the Montreal North borough of the island. The main events and peak of that gang war had taken place between 2020 and 2021 with many shootings taking place. Luberisse was arrested August of 2021 and eventually pled guilty concerning a shooting which had occurred on the North East of Montreal. It would land him a sentencing of 3 years and 1 month in prison.
The shooting in question had occurred May 29th, 2021 towards 12am on 61st Avenue in the RDP/Pointe-aux-Trembles borough of the city. Nearly a dozen bullets were fired in a Dodge Durango he occupied at the time of the shooting. Luberisse was unscathed. The moments after the shooting were captured on video as Luberisse filmed the SUV and posted it on his Instagram story. He would eventually use the footage as the introduction video to his freestyle over Kodak Black’s Transgression beat. After filming his shot up vehicle, Luberisse would then call 911, noting he wanted to make a report on the incident, an action in which he wouldn’t pursue, never showing up to the police station to make his report.
This mistake would soon follow him to the gates of a prison, when authorities decided to track Luberisse’s moves for the next following months. Through ballistics reports, police were able to pinpoint the fact that certain gunshots and bullet holes had come from inside of the Dodge Durango, meaning that Luberisse had played a part in what was now considered a shoot-out. This fact granted police to issue a warrant for his arrest. When he was arrested in August, authorities found a 9mm handgun in his vehicle.
A week before the shooting, Luberisse posted a picture on social media with the caption “Fuck this block. I can’t stand this motherfucking block”. The picture portrayed him sitting in a vehicle at the intersection of Rue Pascal & Lapierre in Montreal North. A sign of disrespect for Zone 43 which would eventually lead to the shootout he had been implicated in.
Split Decisions
Luberisse was a leader of a subgroup of the Profit Boyz named ’40 Thievez’ or Four Street Runners. An idea that derived from the Arabic folk tale and book named “Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves”, being one of the more well-known “Arabian Nights” tales. The Profit Boyz would eventually have to make a decision and pick sides as the BFM/HA drug war started to progress and take flight in the beginning of 2024.
The Blood Family Mafia contested to pay the 10% tax the Hells Angels MC imposed on drug dealers throughout the east of the province. Dave ‘Pic’ Turmel, the leader of the Blood Family Mafia had found a GPS device under his car in March of 2023, which he believed to have been placed by the bikers. It was the straw that broke the camel’s back and the start of the BFM/HA drug war. As time passed, this conflict eventually grew to the four corners of the province, with many street gangs siding with independent dealers in their fight against the bikers and this 10% tax.
Picking sides wasn’t so easy for the Profit Boyz, coming out to a split decision. Some were geared against the bikers and very few were still loyal to them, others wanted to remain neutral. In the past we’ve always reported the Profit Boyz as siding primarily with the Blood Mafia Family, but it seems a sliver of the Profit Boyz had opposing ideas. Three members of the gang were implicated in an kidnapping attempt which occurred in Alma, Quebec, a town located in the Saguenay region, at the end of August. The plan was to kidnap a 29-year-old man before a police operation had caught them red-handed.
One of suspects arrested was Kensey ‘Ryder’ Apollon, one of the leaders of the Profit Boyz. It is allegedly said that this kidnapping who issued by All Boivin, a Saguenay drug kingpin which has sided with the Blood Family Mafia side of the conflict. Boivin is currently a fugitive and is one of Canada’s most wanted criminals with a 250,000$ bounty on his head through the BOLO program. Apollon leads the Profit Boyz with another member dubbed Dave ‘Jackboy’ Dorestant. Dorestant is also a rapper for the street gang. Apollon and Dorestant were recently charged in an attempted murder which had taken place in Ontario in recent months.
Conclusion
Luberisse, 35 at the time of his death, had been freshly sentenced in a case of conjugal violence at the Riviere-des-Prairies detention facility in the S1 wing. He entered the prison on Saturday (30/11/2024). Luberisse was set to have a court appearance on Monday, being represented by Chloe Potel, who had informed the court that Luberisse was found dead throughout the morning on Sunday.
TVA Nouvelles reports that this may have been an internal purge concerning the HAMC. Funnily enough, Kensey ‘Ryder’ Apollon was housed in the same prison and had asked to change wings weeks before the death of Luberisse due to tension with other members of the Profit Boyz. Let’s remember that Apollon allegedly sides with the Blood Family Mafia. There might have been a million reasons Andrew ‘Ali Baba’ Luberisse was found dead, but only time will tell.
