The violence from the drug war taking place is at an all time peak these days. Many incidents such as criminal arsons, shootings and home invasions have taken place throughout last week. Raids and the sentencing of affiliates or members of the Blood Family Mafia have also taken place. Not to mention, the apprehension of the young gang leader, Dave ‘Pic’ Turmel, in Rome on March 27th. Sitting in a prison cell and awaiting extradition to Canada. The first of these various incidents is the event of a Pakuashipi drug dealer getting busted on March 21st.
Pakuashipi Arrests
So where is Pakuashipi? It is not a town, but rather an Innu community located near the border of Labrador, heading up the north shore of the Saint Lawrence seaway. Meaning the Blood Family Mafia is extending its long arm to the indigenous communities in Northern Quebec. It is located in the Basse Cote-Nord region of the province. Note, the only way to gain access to this community is by aircraft, or a hovercraft ferry which crosses the Saint-Augustin River. To put into consideration how small this town/community is; the total population lands at a measly 237.

Around 10 of those 237 must be cops, because that’s the number of cops who were present throughout the raid and arrest of the 40-year-old drug dealing woman. Police say she acted on behalf of the Blood Family Mafia in the community, leaving the public to believe she was getting her supply from BFM. The woman was held in a cell until she appeared in court until Saturday.

The fact that she is acting on behalf of BFM also leads the police wondering; is a separate Blood Family Mafia cell beginning to form in this town of barely 250 people? Are the youngins of the community jumping onto this BFM drug war craze? The fact that leads them to believe this lies in the intel gathered throughout their investigation. As they frequently saw a certain group of adults and even youngins, barely 18, throughout the course of investigation. Were they clients or affiliates? Only God knows.

All-in-all the local police managed to seize 477 tablets of methamphetamine, 230 grams of cannabis, 20 cannabis vape pens as well as an undisclosed amount of cash money, cellphones and paraphernalia such as scales, baggies and other items. Police had courteously paid visits to certain of the teenager’s parents, seen throughout the investigation, and advised them to stay vigilant.
Unamen Shipu Arrests
This news comes after the February 28th arrest of five people in Unamen Shipu. The Innu community, located a little further south of the Cote-Nord corridor, witnessed the arrests of four men and one woman accused of drug trafficking. The first pair charged, a 43-year-old man, as well as a 47-year-old, who were found going to Quebec City, buying certain drugs. Two other arrests, a man and a woman from the region of Quebec, were arrested and charged with drug trafficking. All four were released after interrogation.

The last person of the batch was arrested in Unamen Shipu, and was later charged. An undisclosed amount of cocaine and methamphetamine was seized during the arrests. It is unknown whether the accused had gotten their supply from the Blood Family Mafia, or whether this event ties into the previously mentioned story.
Is this recent news supposed to be taken lightly? Will more violence occur throughout the province as the Blood Family Mafia organization spread their wings further up north? With the recent arrest of Dave ‘Pic’ Turmel, there are mixed feelings about the future of the notorious Quebec City street gang. Will it simmer down the activities between waging rivals? Or will it add oil to the fire? Turmel has proved time and time again that he doesn’t need to be in the midst of the action to move his pawns.
