Nackeal Hickey: DDO Shootout Suspect Denied Bail

Nackeal Hickey, the DDO shootout suspect appeared in court Thursday. During his appearance he gave up his attempt to receive a bail hearing.

To put it lightly, the shootout between a 26-year-old Rollin’ 90s gang member and a slew of SPVM officers which occurred a couple weeks ago (4/08/2024) was a downright shit show. It’s a miracle that the father and son implicated in the shooting still have a pulse, being victim to both Nackeal Hickey and the guns which the SPVM shot that very Sunday.

The only hero in this story was 52-year-old Houssam Abdallah who used his body as a human shield to protect his 18-year-old son from being shot from an onslaught of bullets set off by the SPVM.

Hickey had showed up in court yesterday (15/08/2024) where the judge had asked the 26-year-old man if he is giving up his right for a bail hearing, in which he simply replied “yes” to. Throughout the midst of the shootout, he was shot multiple times in the chest area, abdomen and in the legs. He is facing 15 different charges including possession of a firearm and 4 different attempted murder charges, all aimed towards SPVM officers. No officers were harmed throughout the altercation. It is still unknown if he raked up charges for the stray gunshot that had gone off when he confronted his childhood friend. Alex Grey is representing him as his lawyer.

Nackeal Hickey has a blemished history. Some of the charges he was accused of in the past include a prison escape in 2016, which he pleaded guilty to. He was also charged with attempted murder the same year. He pleaded guilty to the attempted murder charge in means to reduce it to aggravated assault and being in possession of a weapon. This July he was charged with breaking and entering which he was released on, with the condition he make a 500$ deposit and cease to possess a weapon while the B&E case was pending. He clearly failed to comply with those orders.

The BEI (Independent Investigative Bureau) found that the SPVM used a firearm of a ‘large caliber’ during the shootout which might explain the reason why so many gunshots were fired on that day. Totaling in 30 to 40 shots being fired.

To sum up the event of what happened during the evening of August 4th, in a nutshell, it started off with Hickey’s attempt to settle a dispute with a childhood friend. As the two were attempting to settle the conflict, tensions rather escalated and Hickey decided to brandish a pistol. A struggle ensued for the firearm letting off one shot, neither of them were injured. Panicked, Hickey went out the the nearest street and attempted to steal the vehicle of a passing motorist, at gunpoint, he failed.

Then, there was a critical moment where he decided to target a family of 3, a father with his daughter and son. Hickey demanded the keys at gunpoint. While this was happening, police showed up, Hickey fired in their direction while the father and 18-year-old son, who were unpacking their vehicle from a weekend camping trip, ran across the street to their house. Chaos ensued and the police mistakenly shot at the father and son, believing they were suspects. No one was killed.
