An investigation launched by York Regional Police and the OPP in February of this year saw its end on Monday (26/05/2025) morning, with a press conference hosted by York Regional Police, held in Aurora. The YRP had managed to seize 15 different firearms and over 3 pounds, more specifically 1400 grams, of fentanyl. The YRP managed to track three of these firearms which had allegedly come from the US, while one of them came from Canada. The drug-trafficking ring in question originated in the south central town of Georgina, Ontario in the York region. A small town with a population of around 50,000 people.

The six individuals arrested throughout this operation had been apprehended after search warrants had been conducted in the months of April and May. These search warrants took place in the York region as well as Toronto. The operation had debuted after a tip that police received, in which an individual, 32-year-old Dariel Hidalgo Guzman, was suspected in being involved of drug trafficking in Georgina.
As investigators furthered their knowledge on this kerfuffle, police were able to pinpoint nearly half a dozen other individuals involved in the ring as well. The investigators managed to build a perimeter, which started in Toronto and led to Huntsville, in which the six individuals mentioned above had set foot, and were operating in.

Six search warrants had taken place. Some on April 16th of 2025, and some on May 8th (other reports state May 5th). A total of 7 handguns, 4 rifles and 4 shotguns were seized, in which 9 of these firearms were loaded at the time of the seizures. These search warrants also managed to procure 400 grams of cocaine, 360 opioid-type tablets as well as 70 grams of methamphetamine. 7000$ cash money had also been swooped up by authorities and 260 grams of cannabis.

The six individuals arrested throughout this operation were between the ages of 24 to 39 years of age. Racking up a total of 53 charges in total. The individuals arrested are listed below…
- Gary Laird, 34, of Toronto; Stuck with several charges of drug trafficking, firearms charges, break and entry and being in possession of proceeds obtained from crime.
- Renee Goomansingh, 24, of Toronto; Stuck with several drug trafficking charges, firearms charges and being in possession of proceeds obtained from crime.
- Justice Comeau, 28, of Newmarket; Stuck with various charges of drug trafficking and obstruction of a police officer.
- Dariel Hidalgo Guzman, 32, of Newmarket; Stuck with several charges of drug trafficking, obstruction of a police officer and possession of goods obtained from a crime.
- Ayden Beauchamp, 24, of Toronto; Stuck with two charges of drug trafficking.
- Ali Victor, 39, of Aurora; Stuck with various drug trafficking and firearms charges.

Police had gained momentum throughout the operation when they started collaborating with the Orillia branch of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), which already had some of the suspects being investigated and ultimately led to a joint task force. Police estimate the drugs seized to be at a street value of around 215,000$. It’s a first for the town of Georgina, never having seen a bust as big as this one.
In a series of Q&A’s the York Regional Police had initiated in the press conference, Mike Anderson, a journalist from the Georgina Post had posed the vast majority of the crucial and most vital questions to the YRP, even bringing up politics in which the YRP had no say in.
